BAFTA's 2016 Fashion

Following on from my SAG's best dressed blog post, I thought it would only be fair to also do one about last nights attires for the annual BAFTA's awards. It was a battle of embroidery on the red carpet as some of the biggest stars strutted into the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden wearing an armour of decorative embellishment.
However, surprisingly my best dressed for the night was not wearing an embellished dress and instead, wore a fiery floral and lace gown that wowed the paparazzi with it's bright orange colouring and intense blooming detail which was complimented with a deep burgundy lip for a dark natured yet romantic effect. The rich high neck dress by Erdem was worn by the model and actress, Dree Hemingway, who has recently modelled for Jaeger's Spring 2016 campaign. Hemingway definitely took risks with this dress causing a very divided opinion but in my eyes this bold botanical dress was just the right amount of statement for the award ceremony and ensured the model was extremely on trend throughout the night.

I also own a similar playsuit to this dress, minus the floral print, from H&M which allows me to steal this look but for a quarter of the price! A photograph of my playsuit will be attached underneath the image of Hemingway so you can see how I would style this sort of look!

Another dress which was extremely similar to Dree Hemingway's but was unique in it's own way was this Oscar De La Renta gown which was worn by Annabelle Wallis. The scarlet red gown was covered in a baroque styled floral print complimented by delicate ruffled texture for a feminine yet alluring look. The actress finished her outfit with a pair of dazzling red diamante drop earrings to intensify the use of the bold red hue and communicate a luxurious yet subtle glamourous look. This was definitely my second favourite look of the night!

Battle of the Embellishment
Stars such as Cate Blanchett, Alicia Vikander, Stacy Martin and Antonia Thomas all stepped out last night in gowns that were heavily adorned in pattern and embroidery but who wore the textured trend better?
Cate Blanchett wearing Alexander McQueen
Cate Blanchett's gown was definitely an outstanding choice for the BAFTA's. The Alexander McQueen dress was extremely out there and a surprising choice for Cate with it's edgy black feathered skirt and sequin floral embellishment. However, the actress seemed to pull the wild combination of vivid textures off and was topping the best dressed list for the night.

Alicia Vikander wearing Louis Vuitton.
As the face of the brand, Vikander has been representing Vuitton proudly throughout the award ceremony in her various gowns from the fashion house and her looks just gets better and better. As for her look for the BAFTA's, Vikander wore a 35lb gown by the brand which was made of a leather texture and channelled a vampire meets modern day punk look which was completely different to her previous glamourous look for the SAG's and youthful style of gown for the Golden Globes.  I can't wait to see what she has to offer on the carpet of the Oscars.

Stacey Martin wearing Miu Miu
As for Stacy Martin's gown, the actress's dress immediately communicated a regal vision of luxury and opulence but with a dark vampire twist due to the blood red colour against her white porcelain skin. (Vikander was not the only one opting for this look) The dress worn by the French actress also translated an essence of old Hollywood glamour in the 20th century through the use of heavy dazzling gems and the glittery trimming demonstrating that Martin is of wealth and great status.

Antonia Thomas
Although I think that Thomas should have opted for a more colourful dress than this one for the awards ceremony which would have enhanced her presence on the carpet a bit more, I still think it is such a beautifully designed dress. Therefore, it is still one of my favourite gowns from the night. The top of the dress definitely complimented Thomas' athletic figure and her muscular arms but it still offered a rather feminine and elegant touch with the sartorial fuller silhouette of the skirt.
