Similarly to my role at the Creative Quarter's event 'Spotlight Independent Fashion Event', recently I was lucky enough to be selected to work as a stylist for Nottingham Fashion Week's IFlight independent 2016 Showcase which took place on the 30th April 2016.
Across the showcase there were all different types of local fashion brands such as What you Sayin' clothing, Genius, IFlight clothing, Abenzi fashion, Nyssa Designer, Platypus clothing, KaHo Leung designs and Mavhu who were all debuting their clothing to a busy crowd of fashion enthusiasts.
As for my role, I was allocated the job of assisting the creative director of 'What you Sayin?' clothing and styling different outfits for the catwalk. In terms of the brand's identity and their essence, I would say that the brand translated a very street savvy look onto the runway as the garments consisted of a mixture of bomber jackets, snapback hats, bucket hats and cool graphic t-shirts with cultural and social references throughout. These references consisted of complex Egyptian and mythical Medusa illustrations and bold colourful text across the centre of the designers t-shirts and in various corners of the garment for a full frontal effect when the t-shirts were style with outerwear then a subtle effect when they were style alone. Furthermore, the creative director then went onto showcase a different narrative within his collection accompanied with a modern day 'This is England' themed promotional video which portrayed males wearing the designers clothing and acting as football hooligans to further apply social references to the collection and narrative of the show.

Overall, I felt that this was great work experience in the industry to get a glimpse of what it is like to work behind the scenes of a professional runway show and to take on responsibilities such as styling and changing model's apparel and ensuring that they made it onto the catwalk within their scheduled time. Therefore, although it is early days to decide on exactly what career path I would like to go down, assisting on the show made me more aspirational about possibly going down the route of styling as a potential career path in the future.
