Fashion Communication - Brand/ Retail Promotion and Visual Analysis
For part B of Task 1 and for my study of snakeskin, I have gathered a selection of retail examples from certain fashion communications, such as visual merchandising, point of sales and in-store interiors. This was in order to achieve a stronger understanding of the semiotic codes that brands are trying to translate with this sort of promotion in terms of snakeskin print. Similarly to task 1a, I have gathered a lot of evidence of retail promotion which I intend to narrow down to just two examples, to analyse their use of the snakeskin trend and understand how they are selling the trend in order to interact with their target consumers. I also intend to analyse how each brand communicates a product story and how their location affects their point of sale in my final work.
Over the course of the brief and during our university trip to New York City, I was also able to find some primary research which has really helped with my project. It has also given me further understanding of the snakeskin trend in terms of the way designers are applying the print to their garments in today's current fashion climate. Visiting the exhibition 'Fairy tale Fashion' at FIT also benefitted my research for snakeskin print as it included a section entirely devoted to designers who have used the print within their collections.

I was not able to get the name of this store but their multi-coloured abstract dress complimented with a croc purse was too much of a fashion statement to not photograph.
