Fashion loves Visual Contrast

As you may have came across while reading my previous blog posts, I have talked about a term called visual contrast over and over again. Therefore, I wanted to create a post displaying specific photographs that represent elements of visual contrast as it is something I have learnt about during my course and an aspect that many photographers use to refresh and sustain an interest within their work. It can also provide vital functions such as visual communication to underpin, inform and explain certain narratives whilst also having the power to seduce and attract people to the chosen brand or product.

Visual contrast can be a very subjective thing; ranging from male vs. female, history vs. contemporary, fantasy vs. reality to urban vs. rural. The messages behind this style of photography can even be extremely clear and an apparent aesthetic of what we see or the total opposite and represent something very covert and obscure.

For this post I have looked at various photo shoots including photographs by Guy Bourdin, Eddie Wrey, Julia Kennedy, Juergen Teller, Ben Rayner, Sofie Middernacht & Maarten.
