As promised, I wanted to make a blog post about a fragrance brand which I have become extremely interested in after my recent research trip to London and hopefully I am able to influence you to learn more about the brand and maybe even check out one of their stores across the world!
Frederic Malle created his brand 'Editions de Parfums' in 2000 which to this day consists of some of the greatest noses in the world coming together to create exclusive and niche fragrance for the industry. However, Malle did not receive his great knowledge, connections and experience within perfumery from just anywhere as the genius of fragrance had been immersed in the industry from a very young age. In fact, Malle's grandfather, Serge Heftler-Louiche, was the founder of Parfums Christian Dior and was the notable mind behind some of Dior's most legendary, timeless scents.
Throughout his creations, Malle prioritises the idea of combining a strong sense of olfactory balance with his knowledge of raw materials to maintain his niche characteristics and values within the brand. Therefore, primarily, Malle's fragrances are known to take on a 'back to basic' approach to allow his consumers to gain an emotional experience from his scents but in a unique way due to his diverse impacting ingredients to represent this rawness and sustainability in the composition of his perfumes.
Although the fragrance house has its own feeling and personalities, another fact about Malle's brand is that as a creative in the fragrance industry, he ensures that with his scents he intends to “eliminate all that is superfluous or merely decorative”. Therefore, the one and only rule he values at the core of his brand is that each fragrance that is created for the brand must be designed to uniquely compliment the wearer’s skin rather than to just be another attractive, pleasing scent. Malle therefore, wants to develop this emotional connection to ensure that his customers feel a personalisation and commitment to their chosen scent which ultimately entails a customer loyalty and a bond between the brand and the consumer.
Since many of Malle's fragrances have been influenced and developed by global perfume personalities it is clear that the house does not have it's own specific style but instead, it promotes a freedom within the industry for many creative's to explore new innovations and approaches to scent in a distinctive way. In regards to these twelve personalities, Malle has collaborated with the likes of Jean- Claude Ellena, Dominique Ropium, Maurice Roucel, Bruno Jovanovic, Carlos Benaim, Edmond Roudnitska, Michel Roudnitska, Pierre Bourdon, Ralf Schwieger, Sophia Grojsman, Olivia Giacobetti and Edouard Flechier to create his signature twenty three scents. To name just a few, the most notable fragrances by the brand are Carnal Flower, (Dominique Ropium) Bigarade Concentrée, (Jean Claude Ellena) Dries Van Noten (Bruno Jovanovic) and Monsieur (Bruno Jovanovic)
In terms of places where Malle's products are sold, Malle's most iconic stores are located in Paris, New York, London and Rome. However, the creative also has other stores in the likes of Germany, Hong Kong, Canada, Sweden and Russia.
