Showcase of my Creative Work

Throughout the past semester at university, I have taken part in various activities during seminars and studio sessions that have enhanced my creative skills, allowed me to collaborate with professionals from the industry and also experiment with new exciting materials. Therefore, in this post I thought I would share with you some of the work that I have created and I am extremely proud of.

Monoprinting

In our studio sessions, we were also set the task of creating several pieces of monoprinting. The task allowed me to respond to current trends throughout fashion editorials in a creative way, whilst also learning more about innovative shapes, effective compositions and different textures upon a surface.

Life Drawing

In another studio sessions, we were given the task of creating an array of life drawings analysing the male and female body, whilst also experimenting with a mixture of mediums; inks, pencils and paint. Not only did the task enhance my drawing skills, but it also taught me more about the concept of negative space, new techniques and creating a visual contrast through line drawings.

What Am I Like?

Although it is a bit of a throwback, I thought this piece of work would be really interesting to share because it was actually the first real brainstorm I created in preparation for creating my own self promoting identity.
My first assignment of my second year studying 'Fashion Communication and Promotion' was to create a mooodboard that showcased an array of different interests and passions that I have as a creative individual. Therefore, using a photographic collage layout that reflected my love for Instagram-like aesthetics, my mood-board displays images such as my favourite food, place, memory, animal and clothing that all individually represent my identity in an emotional yet visual way. I also found that this task was extremely useful as a start activity for creating my own brand identity as it allowed me to uncover my own personal aesthetic.

Risograph with Dizzy Ink

The Greasers Culture

As part of my course at university, I took part in a workshop with Dizzy Ink where I was able to experiment and learn all about the different creative outcomes that Risography can offer. In order to show off what we had learnt throughout the workshop, in small groups we created a zine that communicated the identity of a specific subculture. Our zine, which was bind in the format of a 'beak book' was based on the style, attitude and tastes of the 1950's 'Greaser' subculture.

the experience was so interesting and extremely beneficial as a creative student! If you are interested in taking part in a risograph or screen printing workshop head down to Cobden Place in Nottingham and meet with the overly talented Dizzy Ink team to have fun with inks and enhance your artistic skills!

Working with Lord Whitney: SPACE X BUCKET

On my course, I took part in a workshop that involved working with the extremely talented and influential set designers 'Lord Whitney'. In groups of ten we were all given a brief to create a set design that translated a visual concept and a specific object. My group were given the brief of 'space and bucket'. Therefore, we created a set design that surrounded the scene of a bucket that was lowered into a magic wishing well. The bucket contained various wishes that could be on a customers wish list at COW vintage. In terms of visual merchandising and interaction with the consumer, visitors in the store could place their wish for one item in the store into the bucket which would be drawn out by employees of COW at the end of the display. The work shop was so beneficial to take part in as I was able to enhance my visual communication skills, whilst also learning about the creativity of prop design which was helpful in the development of my self promotion work.

Here is a look at some photos of the set design we created.....

A change in identity...

Hi everyone! Sorry for the lack of posts in the past month! I have been really busy balancing the festive period with completing a tonne of university work. As you can probably see, I have undergone a transformation on my blog so now I have my very own brand identity as my header! This identity was designed and created entirely by myself and I am extremely proud of it as it was my very first experience of designing something that was a true representation of my individuality! If you would like to see more about the development and execution of my brand identity you can head over to my new online portfolio: kateemilyferguson.wixsite.com/kateemilyferguson
Not only does the portfolio include my brand identity development but you can also view my new business card on there as well!

In terms of what is up and coming this month, as usual I will be updating my blog weekly with everything I am getting up to that explores the creative and fashion industry. Firstly, I will be sharing a few key pieces of work that I have taken part in over the past two months which I am extremely proud of and excited to share. Then as time goes on I will be beginning to share new content surrounding key trends for 2017, my trip to Berlin in mid January and as always many reviews of new influential cultural landscapes that I come across.

Anyway, I wish you all the best new year and keep checking out my blog for new updates!

Thank you,

Kate Emily Ferguson!
